Tax Planner and Advisor Near You
Gould, Blake & Company CPAs helps individuals and businesses stay on top of their taxes so they don’t have to worry about those dreaded tax days. We're a local CPA firm near you in Phillipsburg, NJ, about 5 minutes from downtown Easton, PA.
Quarterly tax planning and estimated taxes
We understand that taxes are not everyone’s favorite business activity. That’s why we at Gould, Blake & Company CPAs want to be the CPA you trust to simply just handle them for you.
We will meet with you quarterly to go over all of your taxes so you can focus the rest of the year on your own revenue. Our goal is to take all of your tax planning burdens off of your plate.
Whether you're looking for a tax planner, a tax consultant or a tax strategist, you'll work directly with one of our licensed CPAs.
What our tax planning and advisory services include
- Quarterly estimated taxes
- Federal and state tax returns
- We keep you up to date on tax law changes that affect your business.
- Help with IRS and state notices
- A review of your books each quarter, with adjusting entries when needed
- Year-end strategic tax moves before December 31, such as equipment purchases and retirement contributions
- Questions about how your business is set up, such as whether an S corporation election makes sense
Year-end tax planning
Some tax moves only count if they happen by December 31. Before the year ends, we look at whether to buy equipment now or next year, how much to put into retirement accounts, and when to take income and pay expenses.
Small business tax planning
Gould, Blake & Company CPAs works with small business owners on their tax planning. We take a focus on:
- how the business is set up
- how you pay yourself
- when to make big purchases
We communicate year-round to ensure you are getting all of your potential benefits.
We work with sole proprietors, partnerships, S corporations and C corporations, including contractors, construction companies and auto shops.
Tax planning for real estate agents, insurance agents and the self-employed
If you're paid on commission or on a 1099, nobody withholds tax for you. Real estate agents, insurance agents and other self-employed people owe estimated taxes four times a year, and missed payments lead to penalties.
We figure each payment with you, make sure your business expenses are counted, and look at retirement plans for the self-employed that lower your tax.
Real estate investors who are selling a property or planning a 1031 exchange should talk to us before the sale.

Frequently Asked Questions
Tax preparation reports what already happened last year. Tax planning happens during the year, while you can still change the result, such as how much you pay each quarter or when you buy equipment.
April 15, June 15, September 15 and January 15 of the next year. New Jersey and Pennsylvania use the same dates. When a date falls on a weekend or holiday, it moves to the next business day.
The IRS doesn't charge the penalty if you owe less than $1,000 when you file, or if your withholding and estimated payments covered at least 90% of this year's tax or 100% of last year's. If last year's adjusted gross income was over $150,000 ($75,000 if married filing separately), the last-year figure is 110%.
You can pay early, but paying everything in January can still bring a penalty for the earlier quarters, because each due date counts on its own. Tax withheld from a paycheck is the exception: it's treated as paid evenly through the year.
No. "Tax strategist" isn't a license. A CPA is licensed by the state and has to pass the CPA exam and keep up continuing education. Both of our partners are CPAs.
Usually, if you're self-employed, own a business or rental property, or are about to sell something big. If your only income is a W-2 paycheck, most of the work is getting your withholding right, which our individual plan covers.
May to August is best, after filing season. From January to April we're busy with returns, and there's less time to plan for the year you're in.
No. You or your bookkeeper keep the books. We review them each quarter and make adjusting entries when needed.
